If you have 5-6 inches of clearance already, what is the problem?

RE: Awning

First time is a B-. I did it myself, I found that the bottom slot MUST be cleaned out with a water hose to get the fine sand and grim out or you will be pulling your arm out of the socket. Back the tension of the spring off with a vise grips carefully. Make sure the screws are removed on top that hold the fabric from moving around. Pull it out. Replace with the new fabric and reverse the process. Two people is highly recommended. And if your helper is your DW, don't yell at her or you will be doing it by yourself. :)

RE: Replacing Awning Slides

Been there, done that. I found a used arm at a local RV parts store for ten bucks. Took the old one off bottom first, put a vise grips on the top to keep the spring from releasing, took the top off and put the newer one on, reversing the process. 15 minutes, done and ready for the next wind blast.

RE: Carrier on Backend for generator

I have a receiver hitch on the front of my TV. Don't have to walk around the trailer to see if the generator is still there. Won't drag when leaving a fuel stop. Think about it.

RE: Electric slide motor's make clicking sound!

This is on a Alumascape, The drive itself looks like an elect. tongue jack on a bumper pull, except alot longer. The clutch thing sounds right because it only does it when its closed tight or open wide. If it has a clutch where would it be located? Hoot!I had that problem with my Alpenlite. I got out the book that comes with the trailer and looked it up. There is a regulator that needs a small adjustment with a screw driver. Mine was located under the spice rack near the refrigerator. That ended the clicking.

RE: Extended Warranties

Consumer Reports did all the work on researching this subject. Save your money.

RE: 1/2 ton & 32' 5th wheel

Nope, I wouldn't consider it. I pulled my 31 ft pulltype home 240 miles of flat roads @ 45mph top. White knuckled ride. Hard on the tranny, rearend and my nerves. It was just to heavy for the 1/2 ton. Can you do it? sure you can, just remember, you have to come back down the grade too.

RE: Maxxis tire question

I bought my Maxxis at Discount Tire, they did have to get them from a warehouse but only took a few hours.

RE: tire inflation pressure

The biggest cause of blown tires is under inflation, road hazards, poor quality tires(not always made in China). I strongly suggest you inflate your tires to the maximum PSI, check them each time you get ready to pull out on the road. You run G rated tires made for a heavy load, nothing less. When your tires are about 5 years old, no matter how they look, it is time for new ones. One blown tire can cause a tremendous amount of damage to your rig. Been there a few times. Your dealer doesn't sound credible to me. Good luck and happy trails.

RE: clearance between bed rails and 5th wheel

In an attempt to level my trailer, I only have 5 inches clearance. I don't like that but if I adjust to 7 inches it puts more weight on the back axle with more possiblities of blowing tires of which I have had more than enough experience with. I have a GMC 4x4 which is 54-55 inches from the ground to the top of the box. I will try it, be careful and see how it goes.

RE: How high is your bed?

I tried to level my trailer by raising the pin to the last hole, it is level now but I only have 4-5 inches clearance. I don't like that so today it goes back up a hole for a couple inches more.

RE: Potential Newbie

You can getter done with 16k. You can find older Dodge 3/4 T with a Cummins for a good price from a private party. Google Craigs List. I sold my trusty 96 for 6k, a good truck but a little under powered for the weight I was towing. A shorter 5th wheel with a slide out will do if you only have the two of you. Take your time,if like me, you have more time than money anyway.

RE: Braking Help needed

First thing, determine if it is the TV or trailer. Do that by disconnecting the plug from the recepticle in the bed of your TV. Read what the controller says, if your problem went away, your TV is good. Plug it back in and check each wheel. I did it myself on mine by jacking up each wheel separately, setting the brake controller manually and giving each wheel a turn to see if the brake was working. I found one that was free. Took it apart and found a broken wire and a brake that needed to be replaced.

RE: Selling on E-Bay

Craigslist.com is quick, easy and FREE. Can't say that about E-Bay.

RE: Valve stems

You don't say if they are rubber or steel, if rubber, they have to be replaced, if steel, tighten them up until they stop leaking. They have a rubber washer inside, if you tighten to much it will cut the washer and you will keep leaking air. That might be your problem. I replaced all my steel stems with brass.

RE: Stinky hot water

The anode rod which is usually connected to the drain plug needs to be changed, it is designed to smell like rotten eggs, or H2S

RE: Big boom, but I didn't go down

I have a OSHA approved horn in my hat that goes off if I get too close to an open slide or the pin box.
